Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring
Example 9: Solve x2 + 3 = 4x
Solution: First subtract 4x from both sides to get:
x2 – 4x + 3 = 0
Then factor the left side:
(x – 1)(x – 3) = 0
Now set each factor to 0 and solve:
x – 1 = 0 --> x = 1
x – 3 = 0 --> x = 3
